RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: Supervision of Quality Department/Laboratory Direct supervision and direction of laboratory staff in daily workload and task assignment for lab technicians at both plant locations Ensure work schedules and time keeping is accurately maintained Complete projects and special analysis as assigned Conduct preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on laboratory equipment as required Develop and manage operating budget for lab as well as manage planning and execution for lab related capital projects Maintain accurate inventory of all operating supplies and consumables Maintain a neat and orderly lab, consistent with 5S principles Lead lab safety initiatives, active participation in site wide safety activities and meetings, ensure safety compliance by lab team Track completion of recurring tasks for SQF and Quality program Track inventory and order consumables and equipment for both labs Quality Control Testing Maintain and oversee system to accurately sample, measure, and document chemical and physical properties on all types of raw in-process and finished products following established laboratory guidelines.
Effectively communicate analysis results.
Interpretation of what is normal and acceptable product quality; recognizing when results deviate from these levels.
Determine quality disposition of product as needed for out of spec and returned material Work with mining, production, and sales on quality issues and coordinate to ensure all quality program tasks completed by respective parties Lead ore body blending program to achieve consistent chemistry of finished products within specification ranges Has authority to hold, or not release any shipment suspected of non-conformance Training and Development Assist laboratory technicians in understanding test procedures, data entry and reporting requirements Develop, train, and mentor laboratory technicians to improve competency, efficiency, and contributed value to LNA.
Identify and train backup laboratory technicians from operations to cover absences of primary laboratory technicians This position will provide a backup to laboratory technicians during periods of absences of primary and backup technicians Trains technicians (and others as required) on laboratory specific safety and health hazards and their mitigation (i.
e.
chemicals, acid/base reactivity, etc.
) Train all site team members on SQF and Quality program requirements Customer Interaction Communicate with customers in regard to product quality Facilitate customer audits and complete supplier quality documents Issue Certificate of Analysis as requested by customers in a timely fashion Quality Management System Maintain and improve upon existing Quality Management System plant to ensure local compliance Lead an effective internal audit program Participate in internal contract reviews as the facilities’ designated Quality Representative Facilitate and organize management review activities, ensuring proper documentation is maintained per the requirements of the standard Maintain an effective document control program Maintain local quality testing database Maintain and update product specifications as needed, using statistical analysis to review past performance to specifications Lead, facilitate, and document quality related RCA’s Safe Quality Feed Program Leadership Ensure site compliance with SQF program through close coordination with other departments at both plants Update SQF program as needed to comply with changes to regulations Develop, conduct, and document SQF training for all site personnel Lead internal audits for SQF compliance Participate as primary site contact in outside certification audits Operations Quality Support Support plant operations in equipment/process matters related to quality Communicate customer specific product quality requirements to operations team to ensure clear understanding of need for quality Design and implement DOE experiments and testing to support operational changes as needed in partnership with operations Perform other duties as assigned.
ATTRIBUTES: While infrequent, production requirements periodically require working hours outside of regularly scheduled shifts Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, rotating shifts, if required.
Proven leadership, management, and supervisory experience Self-motivated and must be able to work independently Ability to create, update, and deliver training on documented operating practices, policies, and procedures Lab instruments operations and maintenance knowledge Ability to plan and direct the work of assigned direct reports Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs Excellent team building and people skills Strong time management and organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Capable to work in a dynamic workplace Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.
Working knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and its requirements All personnel will be responsible for the facilities’ Safe Food initiative based on FSMA and Current Good Manufacturing Practices.
Physical Demands include, but are not limited to: Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels Will be working in both a lab environment and in a mining process environment The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years of previous project leader, supervisory quality, process engineering, or laboratory experience in a heavy fast paced manufacturing, construction, and/or mining/mineral processing environment is required.
Required Education: AA degree in Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, or technical related field with work experience in the field desired.
