I.
Position Summary: The Admissions Clerk projects the professional, caring image while registering patients for admission or outpatient procedures.
Responsible for ensuring that all phases of the admission process (interviews, pre-admissions pre-certification and collection of pre-pays) are completed in an accurate and timely manner in order to guarantee: (1) that maximum collection is achieved; (2) preclude any claims denials; and (3) that all processes are conducted according to state, federal and hospital regulations.
Provides patients with directions (that can be clearly understood) to departments where treatment will be rendered or personally transports patients if needed.
Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
Responsible to actively participate in quality assurance/performance improvement activities to ensure processes are meeting the intended goal/outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of care provided in their respective area.
II.
Position Requirements: A.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A B.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in hospital setting is preferred.
C.
Experience: Prior experience working in a medical facility admitting office preferred.
Experience in interacting with customers/patients in a service oriented setting is a must.
Previous data entry experience is helpful.
D.
Special qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Basic clerical skills.
Minimum typing speed of 20 wpm with no errors.
Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax).
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the hospital.
Ability to work well under pressure.
III.
Degree of Supervision Required: Minimum; incumbent must be able to work very well on their own.

Ages of Patients Served: This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
